On April 29, 2017 Macaroni Kid Columbia hosted a Free Dreamworks Spirit Riding Free Preview Party at Richland Main Library from 3:30-5:15pm.

Dreamworks Spirit Riding Free is the story of Lucky, a feisty twelve-year old young lady of society that craves adventure, but has only been allowed to experienced it through books. Until Lucky travels by train with her father and aunt to her new home in Miradero, leaving the big city life behind. During the train ride Lucky begins to worry about leaving her friends and how she will fit in and make new friends once she arrives in Miradero. Most people that live in Miradero know how to ride horses and Lucky has never even had the chance to sit on a horse.

While taking in the scenery from the train, Lucky spots a group of wild stallions racing alongside the train. One particular feisty stallion gallops next to the train and makes eye contact with Lucky and she feels an instant connection. Lucky is instantly heartbroken when the stallion is captured by wranglers. On the way to school Lucky sees the wild stallion tied to a post because he refused to be broken. She talks to him and gives him an apple from her lunch before heading off to school.

Lucky struggles to fit in with the other kids at first, but shows just how brave she is and makes friends with Pru and Abigail after she and Spirit save their lives. Pru's father give Spirit to Lucky, but instead of keeping him, she decides to let him go free. It is long before they are back together showing how brave and fierce they both are.

Spirit Riding Free has many life lessons for girls as well as boys to learn. The series is simple and well-written to ensure any child would easily be engrossed in the message of bravery and friendship. Every child and parent at  the preview party loved the movie and looks forward to watching the entire series on Netflix. In exchange for previewing the movies, parents and kids received a reuseable Spirit Riding Free shopping bag, Spirit posters, a Spirit bandana, coupon for online Spirit game and excerpts from the Spirit branded chapter book.

We had Dreamworks Spirit Riding Free posters with several activities on the back of the posters for kids to enjoy. I even completed all the activities on the back of the poster, because I loved the movies so much! I am a kid at heart! Download the Spirit Riding Free Coloring Page here.

Several mothers loved the movies and felt that there was an obvious message that their kids could learn from watching Dreamworks Spirit Riding Free with their kids. It was so simple to understand and the message of empowerment and being brave were very apparent.
