CPR Training: 9 Reasons Your Child Should Be Trained Today 💓

Columbia CPR, LLC - Providing the Confidence to Give Emergency Care!💓

By Jeanette Dempsey, Founder/CEO Columbia CPR, LLC April 23, 2019

As a parent, I'm always concerned what my children do when I'm not around. You know us "helicopter parents". My father died of a massive heart attack in 2001. He was at home with my mom and little brother David (16) and neither of them knew what was happening or how to help. After losing my father, I wanted my kids to be able to recognize an emergency and know how to provide assistance until medical personnel to arrive and take over. Not only that, I wanted my kids to be able to help anyone they encounter in public with confidence.

As the mom of three, I have taught all of my kids how to do CPR and how to administer first aid. My daughter Rylee was 7 years old when she learned how to do CPR and provide first aid. She used what she learned to help her best friend who was choking when she turned 8. She was used to seeing me teach students what to do during classes in my home.💓

  • Empowering - CPR & first aid training gives your child the confidence to take action in an emergency because they know what the signs and symptoms are for common medical emergencies. They feel capable of acting in an emergency.
  • Recognize an emergency - being able to recognize an emergency and knowing what care to provide can make the difference in a life-threatening situation. CPR & first aid training offers the best chance of survival in an emergency.
  • Parents feel confident - knowing that your child is certified to provide emergency care if needed offers a sense of confidence for parents. Knowing that your child can handle an emergency in your absence gives you a sense of security. Sign your child(ren) up today!
  • Promotes independence - having a CPR & first aid certification class encourages children to be more independent and willing to step up in an emergency.
  • Builds confidence - children that attend a CPR & first aid class are more confident when an emergency happens and very happy to share what they know with their friends.
  • Valuable life skill - knowing CPR & first aid is a crucial life skill that every child should learn.
  • Hands-on skills are memorable - each class offers children the opportunity to build muscle memory by performing hands-on skills. Hands-on skills reinforce what is learned in the class which makes it easier for them to remember what to do.
  • Staying calm - children that have had formal CPR & first aid training usually understand what is happening and know how to help. They know that they have to remain calm to ensure that the victim remains calm too.
  • No fear of being sued - many people worry that if they help in an emergency they may be sued. Students learn that acting within the scope of their training (providing basic care), not accepting gratuities, seeking help immediately for more advanced situations prevent them from being held liable if the person doesn't survive. This reduces the likelihood of failure to act.

Children as young as 7 years old can easily learn hands only CPR and provide first Aid. I strongly encourage parents to find a CPR & first aid instructor in your area that's willing to work with kids.

We hope you decide to sign your child up for a class soon. Empower your kids by scheduling a CPR party for them and other friends. It will be a life -saving learning experience. 💓
